Work Experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Planning Engineer, specifically within the oil and gas industry.
- Proven track record in planning and scheduling for large-scale pipeline projects (e.g., cross-country transmission lines, gathering systems).
- In-depth knowledge of pipeline construction methodologies, right-of-way (ROW) acquisition, stringing, welding, NDT, lowering-in, backfilling, and hydrotesting.
- A certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
- Technology Platforms
- Expert-level proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6 is essential. Strong skills in
- Microsoft Project is a plus.
- Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, charts).
- Experience in SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP-PM) is not compulsory but an added advantage
- Experience and working knowledge in Data Analytics, Data Mining, Data

Purpose:
- The Planning Engineer is a crucial member of the pipeline emergency response unit, responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules for pipeline emergency repairs and minor projects (both onshore and swamp).
- This role ensures that project timelines are accurately planned, proactively monitored, and effectively communicated to stakeholders.
- The ideal candidate will use their expertise in planning methodologies and oil & gas project lifecycles to identify potential delays, recommend mitigation strategies, and support the team in achieving on-time and on-budget delivery.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop, maintain, and update integrated project schedules (Level 1 to 3) for pipeline projects, including Emergency Repairs, Minor Projects, Procurement,
- Construction, Testing, and Commissioning phases.
- Utilize Primavera P6 (primary tool) to create work breakdown structures (WBS), define activities, sequence logic, and assign resources and durations.
- Integrate schedules from various stakeholders, including the planning team, procurement, project team and repair contractors.
- Establish and maintain the project baseline schedule and manage the formal change control process for schedule impacts
- Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule, tracking physical % complete, and identifying critical path and float.
- Perform schedule impact analysis for potential changes, delays, and disruptions.
- Prepare and distribute comprehensive weekly and monthly progress reports, including S-Curves, histograms, and variance analysis.
- Highlight potential schedule risks and bottlenecks to the Lead Emergency
- Response/Project Manager and propose corrective actions for recovery.
- Collaborate with the project team to identify schedule-related risks and opportunities.
- Support quantitative schedule risk analysis (QSRA) to determine contingency and confidence levels.
- Evaluate the impact of change orders and trends on the project schedule and provide input for claims analysis, if necessary
- Work closely with project engineers, Site supervisors, HSE supervisors, and procurement team to gather progress data and ensure schedule accuracy.
- Lead and participate in regular schedule review meetings with project teams and contractors.
- Provide clear and concise schedule presentations to senior management and clients.
- Should be able to function as a Cost Engineer to ensure alignment between the project schedule and the cost control system (earned value management – EVM).
