Guidance Counselor

Reports To: Vice Principal Academics

Job Purpose

The Guidance Counselor provides academic, social, emotional, and career support to students at Noble Hall Leadership Academy for Girls. The role is to help students develop their potential, make informed decisions, and successfully navigate challenges, while upholding the values of leadership, integrity, and excellence that the school represents.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Guidance

  • Support students in setting realistic academic goals and strategies for improvement.
  • Assist students in preparing for external examinations (IGCSE, WAEC, SAT, etc.).
  • Provide study skills workshops and time management strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to identify students who may need extra academic support.

Career & Higher Education Counseling

  • Guide students in exploring career options, subject selection, and future pathways.
  • Assist with university applications, scholarships, and admissions processes (Nigeria & international).
  • Organize career fairs, university visits, and mentoring sessions with female leaders and professionals.

Social & Emotional Support

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions on personal, social, and emotional issues.
  • Help students build resilience, confidence, and leadership qualities.
  • Offer support for conflict resolution, peer relationships, bullying prevention, and stress management.
  • Liaise with parents where necessary to support students’ well-being.

Student Development Programs

  • Design and implement programs on leadership, values, personal development, and life skills.
  • Organize workshops on issues affecting adolescent girls (self-esteem, personal safety, online responsibility, health awareness).
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.

Administrative & Professional Duties

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
  • Develop reports and provide recommendations to school leadership where appropriate.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality in all counseling activities.
  • Continuously engage in professional development to stay updated on best practices in guidance and counseling.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Professional certification in counseling or related area (desirable).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a school counselor, preferably in an international or girls’ school setting.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and challenges facing young girls in Nigeria and globally.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and administrators.
