Role Summary
- The New Business Ventures Lead will be instrumental in the identification, assessment, and strategic planning & evaluation of new business opportunities across multiple industries in Sub-Saharan Africa. They will provide investment feasibility analysis, evaluating payback periods, ROI, risk assessment, and market viability to drive strategic investment decisions for the company.
Key Activities
Business Evaluation & Feasibility Studies
- Assess investment opportunities across multiple sectors and determine market viability, ROI, and financial sustainability.
- Conduct feasibility research, including economic, legal, and operational aspects.
- Prepare investment proposals with clear payback calculations and profitability projections.
- Present findings to the investment committee, providing data-backed recommendations.
Strategic Growth & Industry Analysis
- Conduct market research on industry trends, competition, and emerging opportunities.
- Identify new markets and sectors that align with business expansion goals.
- Develop frameworks for risk mitigation and financial modeling in investments.
Financial & Commercial Assessment
- Work closely with finance teams to analyze investment risks and returns.
- Ensure investments align with budgetary constraints and long-term financial goals.
- Build strong business cases that support scalability and profitability.
Stakeholder Engagement & Deal Structuring
- Engage with local regulators, government bodies, and industry leaders to drive investment success.
- Lead negotiations and due diligence processes for acquisitions or partnerships.
- Foster relationships with potential investors, business owners, and financial institutions.
Lead Generation and Prospecting
- Generate leads and prospects through various methods, such as cold calling, networking, and attending industry events.
Performance Monitoring and Analysis
- Monitor and analyse the performance of new ventures, and provide insights and recommendations for improvement.

Scope of the Role
Position profile
- Strong Accounting & Financial Expertise – Deep understanding of financial modeling, feasibility studies, and investment analysis.
- Proven Experience in Business Acumen & Development – Thorough understanding of business principles, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes. In addition to the aability to assess industries, evaluate payback periods, and drive strategic investments.
- Sub-Saharan Africa Market Knowledge – Experience in operating within emerging markets and navigating economic volatility.
- Leadership & Strategic Thinking – Ability to present investment cases to senior leadership and influence decision-making.
Position Requirments
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field. MBA is a plus
- FCA-qualified or a Chartered Accountant
- Certification in Business Analysis & Financial Modeling/Strategic Planning/Project Management a plus
- 5-7 years of experience which should include Business Development Management – developing projects from conception to completion. Private equity experience a plus
- Pan-African experience required; outside of Africa a plus
- Knowledge of designing and implementing frameworks for long-term goals
