Job Description
- The Clearing Agents are responsible for ensuring the smooth movement of goods through customs and regulatory processes, acting as intermediaries between importers/exporters and government customs authorities, streamlining the customs clearance process and ensuring compliance with legal requirements
Responsibilities
Customs Clearance:
- Liaise with customs officials to ensure the timely release of goods.
- Handle customs queries and resolve issues that may arise during the clearance process.
- Arrangement for customs and other units for examination
Documentation Management:
- Verify the accuracy of documentation such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all customs documentation and transactions.
- Lodgement of Entry at the Log Room
Client Coordination:
- Communicate with clients to obtain necessary information and documentation for customs clearance.
- Provide updates to clients on the status of their shipments and address any concerns or questions they may have.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay updated with changes in customs regulations and ensure compliance with all local and international trade laws.
- Stay informed about changes in customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements, advising clients on potential impacts and opportunities
Logistics Coordination:
- Coordinate the logistics of transporting goods from the port to the final destination.
- Select appropriate transportation modes, negotiate freight rates, and oversee the movement of cargo by land
Physical Examination of Cargo:
- Arrange for the physical examination of cargo by customs officials.
- Engage with various customs units during the examination process.
Requirements
- Diplomas (OND) or degrees in business administration, logistics, international trade, or similar fields
- Vocational training or a Certified Customs Broker (CCB) certificate from the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) enhances credibility
- 1 – 3 yrs as Clearing Agents.
- Required age: 25 – 30 years.
Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of customs regulations and procedures.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Proficiency in logistics and supply chain management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within required timeframes
- Team player.
