Description

  • If you believe that strength lies in every connection, we’re looking for you. As our Welding Coordinator, you’ll be the one making sure every weld, like every link in a chain, is strong, precise, and unbreakable. From selecting procedures to supervising on-site operations, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that no detail is overlooked and no standards are compromised.

Key responsibilities

As per ISO 3834-2/3, the Welding Coordinator shall be responsible for ensuring that all welding activities are carried out in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and contract specifications. Duties include:

Planning and Control

  • Develop and implement the Welding Quality Plan in line with ISO 3834-2/3.
  • Review contract specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements to determine welding quality requirements.
  • Select appropriate welding procedures, consumables, and equipment for the scope of work.
  • Coordinate and schedule welding activities in accordance with the construction program.

Welding Procedure and Qualification

  • Review and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Ensure all WPSs are supported by qualified Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
  • Supervise and coordinate the qualification of welders and welding operators according to applicable standards (e.g., ASME IX, ISO 9606).

Welding Supervision and Inspection

  • Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with WPS, drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure proper implementation of pre-welding, in-process, and post-welding controls (e.g., preheat, interpass temperature, PWHT).
  • Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) scheduling and ensure findings are addressed promptly.
  • Conduct internal audits on welding and quality control processes.

Documentation and Traceability

  • Maintain up-to-date records of welder qualifications, welding consumables, WPS approvals, and welding logs.
  • Ensure full traceability of materials, welds, and NDT results.
  • Compile and contribute to final documentation packages for client turnover.

Compliance and Improvement

  • Ensure welding activities comply with ISO 3834-2 or ISO 3834-3, depending on project classification.
  • Initiate and follow up on corrective and preventive actions related to welding quality.
  • Liaise with third-party inspectors, client representatives, and certifying bodies as needed.

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering/Inspector, Metallurgy, or a related field.

Professional Certification

  • Certified International Welding Specialist (IWS), International Welding Technologist (IWT), or equivalent recognized by IIW/EWF.
  • Certification in ISO 3834 implementation is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards (e.g., ASME IX, EN ISO 15614, ISO 9606, EN 1011, etc.).

 Experience

  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in welding coordination or QA/QC in heavy industrial projects (preferably power plants or geothermal projects).
  • At least 3 years of experience working within ISO 3834-certified environments.
  • Experience on EN and ASME-governed projects is essential.

Technical Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of:
  • EN standards: EN ISO 15614, EN ISO 9606, EN 1011, EN 13480/13445.
  • ASME codes: Section IX, B31.1, B31.3, Section VIII Div. 1/2.
  • Familiarity with welding techniques used in geothermal/power plant environments, including: SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, GMAW.
  • Knowledge of geothermal plant materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex alloys.

Key Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of materials behaviour under geothermal service conditions.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding drawings, codes, and standards.
