E-Commerce Accountant

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Financial Management
- Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for Kikapu Chetu in QuickBooks.
- Manage accounts payable/receivable, journal postings, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cash-flow forecasts, variance analyses, and management reports.
- Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform daily reconciliations across Shopify, payment gateways (e.g. Pesapal), and bank statements.
- Investigate and resolve variances, refunds, and chargebacks promptly.
- Implement and maintain financial control procedures for online transactions and returns.
- Reporting & Compliance
- Produce monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with variance explanations.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of VAT, PAYE, and WHT returns.
- Support both internal and external audit processes.
- Budget & Cost Management
- Track operational and marketing spend against budgets; flag deviations beyond 5%.
- Provide input on pricing, promotions, and payment-fee structures to protect margins.
- Optimize supplier payments and manage cost efficiencies.
- Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with the E-Commerce Manager to align sales data with finance reports.
- Support marketing and operations teams with data on sales trends, promo performance, and inventory costing.
- Provide payroll inputs for e-commerce staff as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
- CPA (K) / ACCA (part or fully qualified).
- 3–5 years accounting experience (preferably in e-commerce or retail).
- Hands-on proficiency in QuickBooks, Shopify, and Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups).
- Working knowledge of Kenyan taxation (VAT, PAYE, WHT) and IFRS principles.
- Proven accuracy, integrity, and strong analytical skills.

- Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Develop and implement strategic and business plans aligned with Board directives and SACCO objectives.
- Lead, inspire, and mentor teams to achieve performance targets and uphold cooperative values.
- Provide regular performance, risk, and operational updates to the Board.
- Monitor emerging industry trends and propose innovative strategies for growth and sustainability.
- Financial Management
- Oversee prudent financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Manage the loan portfolio to maintain profitability and minimize default rates.
- Ensure compliance with SASRA financial requirements including capital adequacy, liquidity, and reporting.
- Implement robust internal controls to safeguard SACCO assets and ensure transparency.
- Membership Growth & Service Delivery
- Formulate and execute strategies to attract new members and retain existing ones.
- Oversee delivery of efficient and high-quality member services.
- Maintain strong member relations by addressing concerns and enhancing satisfaction.
- Operations Management
- Supervise day-to-day SACCO operations, including loan processing, savings mobilization, and customer service.
- Ensure operational procedures and policies are well-documented, efficient, and compliant.
- Oversee IT system utilization, ensuring data security and operational efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to SASRA, Co-operative Act, and all relevant financial regulations.
- Implement risk management frameworks to mitigate operational, financial, and legal risks.
- Facilitate audits and inspections, ensuring timely implementation of recommendations.
- Human Resource Management
- Oversee recruitment, training, performance appraisal, and development of SACCO staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Motivate and mentor teams to achieve organizational goals.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise effectively with the Board, members, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the SACCO in industry forums, regulatory engagements, and member events.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships to enhance SACCO visibility and influence.
- Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare accurate and timely reports on financial, operational, and strategic performance.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Provide data-driven insights to support Board decision-making and strategic planning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial services, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Strong understanding of SACCO operations, SASRA guidelines, and cooperative principles.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, financial management, and risk management.
- Familiarity with the Co-operative Act, SASRA regulations, and Kenyan financial regulatory frameworks.
