Requirements for Appointment:
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Lecturer, the candidate must have:
- A doctorate degree (Ph.D) from an accredited/recognized institution
OR
- MMed or MDS, and Specialist training
- A minimum of twelve research publication output points from refereed scholarly journals and two points from publications in conference proceedings
OR
- A minimum of thirty-two publication points if the applicant is from a research institution
OR
- A minimum of six publication points if the applicant is from practice/industry
- Evidence of recognition and registration by the relevant regulatory body where applicable
- Evidence of membership or affiliation of the relevant professional body where applicable
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chairperson of Department, a lecturer will be expected to:
- Teach, examine and assess students in the sign language classes at undergraduate and postgraduate in the Special needs hearing impairment option
- Provide technical support to course lecturers and students in sign language courses
- Adhere to the sign language interpreters code of ethics
- Utilize technology to provide sign language teaching and interpretation services
- Maintain awareness of sign language interpreting best practices and emerging trends
- Contribute to the development of the department through the generation of research and scholarship
- Communicate effectively with students and colleagues
- Author publications in high quality peer-reviewed academic journals
- Support the institutional core values, mission and vision
- Promote positive morale and teamwork within the department and provide exceptional customer service to students, staff and community
- Develop modules or other course components in the area of expertise as and when required
- Undertake administrative tasks and responsibilities and any other duties as required by the Dean and/or Chair of Department
