Theatre Technologist

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain the operating theatre and related equipment before, during, and after surgery.
  • Sterilize, arrange, and ensure availability of surgical instruments and materials.
  • Assist the surgical, anesthetic, and nursing teams during operations.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques and ensure infection prevention and control at all times.
  • Clean and disinfect surgical instruments and equipment after use.
  • Monitor and maintain theatre equipment, reporting any faults or breakdowns promptly.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and ensure their safe transfer to and from the operating theatre.
  • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, instruments, and supplies used.
  • Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal according to hospital policies.
  • Participate in theatre quality improvement, emergency drills, and continuous professional development activities.

Requirements for Appointment:

  • Diploma in Theatre Technology or Operating Theatre Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body where applicable.
  • Proficiency in infection prevention and control practices.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a busy theatre setup will be an added advantage.
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
