Technical Head

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervisory roles:
  • Lead site selection, survey, and feasibility assessments for SUN Mobility station deployments.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and partners to ensure timely and compliant installations.
  • Oversee import logistics for batteries, QISs, and technical equipment into Kenya.
  • Manage the commissioning, operations, and maintenance of battery-swapping stations.
  • Build and lead a team of support engineers and technicians to ensure seamless technical execution.
  • Drive preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure maximum uptime and safety.
  • Collaborate with business, logistics, and finance teams to ensure aligned and efficient rollouts.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, quality standards, and safety protocols across all technical operations.
  • Monitor station performance; track KPIs and provide insights to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Field Technical & Service Support:
  • Lead and manage field service teams for QIS and battery swap operations.
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical issues and customer complaints.
  • Develop SOPs and training programs for field technicians.
  • Battery Operations:
  • Oversee battery swap stations and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Manage in-house battery repair center including diagnostics, refurbishing, and testing.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules and quality checks.
  • Asset Assurance & Logistics:
  • Monitor and ensure the health and tracking of deployed assets.
  • Coordinate import logistics including customs clearance and documentation.
  • Liaise with vendors and logistics partners for timely delivery and compliance.
  • Workshop & Experience Centers:
  • Supervise workshop operations and technician performance.
  • Ensure experience centers are technically equipped and customer ready.
  • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery and customer engagement.
  • Spares & Inventory Management:
  • Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and distribution.
  • Ensure availability of critical components and maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Implement inventory control systems and audits.
  • Planning & Operations:
  • Develop and execute operational plans aligned with business goals.
  • Monitor KPIs and service metrics to drive performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for seamless execution.
  • Workshop Accounts & Reporting:
  • Oversee service-related accounts and budgeting.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of service costs, warranty claims, and asset utilization.
  • Present monthly performance reports to senior management.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 10–12 years of experience in the EV industry, with exposure to battery systems, charging/swapping infrastructure, or vehicles.
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or related engineering field. A master’s will be an added advantage.
  • Proven expertise in site selection, contractor/vendor management, and project execution.
  • Strong understanding of import logistics, warehousing, and technical compliance.
  • Previous experience in leading technical teams and cross-functional projects.
  • Hands-on experience in station operations, commissioning, and preventive maintenance.
  • Background in startups, EV infrastructure, or automotive technology is highly preferred.
