Social Worker/Counselor (Mental Health & Ncd Support)

The Social Worker/Counselor will provide comprehensive psychosocial support, mental health counseling, and social care linkages for patients, students, and community members, especially those affected by chronic illnesses, trauma, disability, or socio-economic distress. This role is key to Matibabu Foundation’s holistic health model integrating clinical care, emotional resilience, and social reintegration.

Qualifications: –

  • Degree or Diploma in Medical/Community Social Work or Counseling Psychology
  • Training or experience in mental health, trauma, or NCD care required
  • Experience working in low-resource, rural, or community health settings
  • Must be registered with Counselors & Psychologists Board
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Five (5) years of experience
  • Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., M-Habari, data entry, mobile reporting) is a plus

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments for patients with SCD, cancer, diabetes, disabilities, or GBV histories
  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling (trauma, grief, crisis, caregiver fatigue)
  • Facilitate referrals to mental health clinicians and social protection programs
  • Support discharge planning and community reintegration for long-stay NCD or mental health patients
  • Participate in the development of the Mental Health & NCD Crisis Response Tools
  • Offer counseling to students and staff (academic stress, depression, trauma, substance use)
  • Run peer educator programs and student resilience workshops under the Circle of Connection and Resilience model
  • Maintain client records and confidentiality logs
