Senior Advisor, Enterprise Risk Management
JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Sr. Director for Global Risk & Compliance, this role provides technical leadership and strategic guidance for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) across the Partnership. This is done by championing ERM as a value-add discipline, partnering with leaders across the enterprise to perform risk assessments, and by acting as a subject matter expert to risk managers throughout World Vision. This will include maintaining and ensuring all entities understand and align with the organisation’s risk management standards, governance methodology, policies, processes and tools.
This position will contribute to the achievement of World Vision’s objectives by promoting a culture that recognises the importance of understanding and managing risk effectively. The position will ensure that appropriate risk assessment methodologies are in place, and mitigation strategies are aligned with WV’s objectives and industry best practices.
This role is expected to foster strong working relationships with senior executives, department heads and cross-functional teams to enable them to practice effective Enterprise Risk Management. This will include leading various teams through the identification, assessment, and mitigation of significant risks. This role is intended to serve as the technical lead for WVI’s ERM Programme including its core documents, associated processes and systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES:
Develop and maintain risk management rigor and practice as an organizational core competency.
- Partnership Risk Assessment and Technical Leadership
- Lead the Partnership Risk Assessment process bi-annually. This will include identifying and partnering with numerous (20+ key Sr. GC leaders and SMEs to identify, assess, analyse and mitigate current and emerging risks through the creation of detailed risk assessments and production of the Partnership Top Risks report.
- Act as the technical expert on Enterprise Risk Management for the organisation. This includes responding to a variety of requests on risk management from GC Directors and Senior Managers, Regional Leadership Teams and SO Risk Directors, as needed.
- As needed, guide NO SLT’s on best practices to integrate ERM into business and strategic planning.
- Use risk analytics to identify risk trends and turn risk data into valuable, practical and actionable insights for leaders. This requires business acumen and understanding of how metrics can be used to strengthen the quality of risk management across offices and regions.
- Facilitate the GC Risk Committee
- Work with members of the Global Centre Risk Committee to set quarterly meeting agendas, conduct risk assessments, develop and present relevant Partnership risk data/trends, and steer conversations towards relevant decision points.
- Quality Assurance
- Work closely with Regional Risk Primes in ensuring development of quality risk registers by Field Offices. This includes identification FOs whose ERM programmes are struggling, and developing strategic plans to strengthen individual offices, escalating significant issues as necessary.
- Periodically evaluate the adequacy of WVI’s internal control framework using tools and assessments produced by other functions to identify potential risks to the organisation.
- Learning and Development
- Develop an ERM training strategy to build risk capacity across the Partnership by leading the creation of several online training programmes and providing F2F and group trainings on ERM as needed.
- Develop and deliver monthly training and awareness presentations to leadership teams, new Risk Primes, and others as requested.
- Risk Monitoring and Reporting
- Develop and provide regular risk analysis to Regional Management (RL, SDOs, Department Heads, etc.) highlighting key risk areas and discussing adequacy and effectiveness of the mitigating strategies.
Manage and the ERM Core document library and WV’s Risk Management Software System (Riskonnect)
- Lead regular updates to the ERM Policy & Framework, and Partnership Risk Appetite
- Apply the necessary technical expertise and understanding of external standards and WVI’s values and structures to update the ERM Policy and Framework in line with changes to the internal and external context, including completion of necessary consultative processes.
- Review the Partnership Risk Appetite Statement regularly and collaborate with other SMEs and Sr. Leaders to complete regular updates to the appetite statement.
- Lead reviews and updates to the multi-year ERM Strategy
- Update, communicate, and implement an ERM strategy that considers a changing operating landscape, evolving risks and lessons learnt from past events along with WV’s current maturity and the desired end-state.
- Software & Continuous Improvement
- Creatively develop often complex metrics using available Riskonnect data to monitor the effectiveness of the ERM program across all Field Offices and Regions and work with key stakeholders to address areas of improvement
- Manage and ensure continuous improvement of the Partnership Risk Management software system Riskonnect, ensuring users’ needs are being met and the system is continuing to add value to the Partnership.
Promote risk management oversight by Boards across the Partnership.
- In partnership with the Global Governance team, build the capacity of local Boards/Advisory Councils in ERM through presenting or contributing content to the Board development sessions Develop guidelines for boards on enterprise risk management that will better equip them to carry out their risk oversight mandate.
- Partner with the Global Advisory and Assurance team to identify relevant audit data that can inform risk assessments, and offices that may require support in strengthening their risk management programmes.
Build and maintain contacts with external risk practitioners
- External Engagement
- Engage with risk practitioners in other INGOs and global risk organizations (e.g. Institute of Risk Management) to maintain understanding of current good practices and tools
- Benchmark across regions and with industry peers to identify and implement best practices in risk management
- Innovation & thought Leadership
- Within the context of risk practitioners and networking groups, act as a leader in developing and sharing innovative best practices in place in World Vision.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, LICENSE, REGISTRATION, AND CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and an active membership in a globally recognized risk management professional institute
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 7-10 years of work experience in the field of Enterprise Risk Management, or a related discipline of risk management.
- Experience engaging and influencing diverse groups of senior leaders both in writing and as a presenter.
- Seasoned professional with well-developed leadership and verbal presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategies that produce results.
- Knowledge and experience in setting strategic goals, measures of success and priorities.
- Ability to align cross-functional strategic priorities.
- Knowledge and experience in risk management methodologies, standards and tools in other organisations.
- Proven success in coordinating or managing project or risk management initiatives.
- Ability to network and share effective practices with external risk management professionals, particularly in the INGO area.
- Understanding and experience in business process improvement.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
TRAVEL AND/OR WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA or related graduate degree/professional qualification
- Risk management certification/qualification
- 5+ years of experience leading and overseeing an ERM function for a large organisation
