Self Reliance Coordinator at RefuSHE
Self Reliance Coordinator
The purpose of a self-reliance coordinator is to coordinate and implement RefuSHE’s self-reliance initiatives across the Artisan Collective and Girls Empowerment Program (GEP) and Livelihoods activities. The role ensures effective delivery of vocational skills, business development, financial inclusion, and protection-linked livelihood programs for refugee youth and women, fostering long-term economic independence and resilience
Key Responsibilities:
Program planning and coordination
- Conduct annual market and participatory assessments and adapt the recommendations.
- Develop need-based departmental budgets that align with departmental strategies
- Consolidate departmental annual work plans with the protection department
- Adopt market system approaches across the self-reliance department
- Oversee program delivery in line with donor commitments and organizational strategic goals
- Ensure adherence to ethical, cultural, and fair-trade standards
- Liaise with external partners to create synergy in the RefuSHE holistic model.
Artisan Collective Oversight
- Ensure compliance with governing authorities, i.e., renewal of Unified Business Permit
- Manage production planning, quality control, and market readiness of artisan collective products
- Develop and implement growth strategies and customer expansion plans.
- Coordinate inventory management, timely shipments, and revenue collection.
GEP Vocal Education Support
- Collaboration with line ministries and institutions TVETA and NITA
- Lead the team in market assessments and design market-driven vocational training
- Lead in identification of internship and job linkage opportunities
- Ensure holistic integration of entrepreneurship and AI skills training in vocational courses
- Ensure safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments for all participants
Livelihoods and Community Engagement
- Oversee design and implementation of the urban savings and loans group interventions for the Women Ambassador Groups and other community-led initiatives
- Take lead in micro-enterprise analysis and categorization and adopt appropriate interventions informed by vulnerability and capacity assessments
- Facilitate stakeholder collaboration, including private and corporate entities, financial institutions, NGOs, working groups, and community-based organizations
- Integration
Monitoring, Evaluating, and Reporting
- Track program performance indicators and impact metrics across all self-reliance programs
- Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain detailed records of production, training participation, and community engagement outcomes
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and internal policies
Innovation
- Identify opportunities for innovative work promoting issues around program development and quality
Partnership Development
- Identify and pursue partnership opportunities with private sectors, training institutions, and donor agencies
- Represent RefuSHE in thematic groups and government forums related to education, livelihoods, and youth employment
- Support proposal development and concept note creation for funding self-reliance initiatives
Team Leadership and capacity building
- Supervise and mentor a diverse team of staff and community facilitators
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching, and promote a culture of excellence and accountability
- Facilitate cross training and professional development across Artisan Collective, GEP and livelihoods teams
- Implementation of the core humanitarian standards in programs
Requirements and qualifications
- Degree in Economics, Business Studies and or specialization in Co-operative Development
- A minimum of 3 years doing similar work – demonstrated entreprise development
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the regional and global market in textile and beauty amongst other value chains
- Proven experience in managing donor funded programs
- Capacity to conduct market assessments
- Competence in bridging refugee protection and capacities in line with evolving refugee context
