Resident Clinical Officer – Anaesthetist
Job Summary
The Resident Clinical Officer – Anaesthetist will be responsible for providing safe anesthesia and perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical, obstetric, and diagnostic procedures. The role involves administering anesthesia, monitoring patients during and after procedures, managing pain, and supporting critical care interventions in collaboration with the surgical, nursing, and medical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer general, regional, and local anesthesia to patients for various surgical and obstetric procedures.
- Assess patients pre-operatively, identify potential risks, and prepare appropriate anesthesia plans.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and anesthesia depth during surgical procedures.
- Provide post-anesthesia care and manage any complications that may arise.
- Assist in emergency resuscitation, pain management, and critical care cases as required.
- Maintain accurate and detailed anesthesia records and reports.
- Participate in the development and implementation of anesthesia protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Ensure all anesthesia equipment and drugs are in good working condition and available at all times.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case reviews, and continuous medical education sessions.
- Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Anesthesia from a recognized medical training institution (e.g., KMTC or equivalent).
- Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya with a valid practicing license.
- At least two (3) years of relevant experience in anesthesia practice, preferably in a busy hospital setting.
- Good knowledge of anesthesia equipment, drugs, and patient monitoring systems.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
