Optometrist III

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual acuity and refraction tests to determine refractive errors
  • Prescribe and fit corrective lenses such as spectacles and contact lenses
  • Detect and manage common eye conditions and refer complicated cases to ophthalmologists
  • Provide advice on visual hygiene, lighting, and eye protection
  • Participate in school and community vision screening programs
  • Maintain accurate patient records and prepare reports
  • Ensure cleanliness, calibration, and proper use of optometric equipment
  • Provide health education and counselling on preventive eye care
  • Assist in training lower-level staff and interns in optometry procedures

Requirements for Appointment

  • Diploma in Optometry or Vision Science from a recognized institution
  • Registration and valid practicing license from the Optometrists and Opticians Board of Kenya
  • Proficiency in computer applications
  • Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
