Optometrist III
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct visual acuity and refraction tests to determine refractive errors
- Prescribe and fit corrective lenses such as spectacles and contact lenses
- Detect and manage common eye conditions and refer complicated cases to ophthalmologists
- Provide advice on visual hygiene, lighting, and eye protection
- Participate in school and community vision screening programs
- Maintain accurate patient records and prepare reports
- Ensure cleanliness, calibration, and proper use of optometric equipment
- Provide health education and counselling on preventive eye care
- Assist in training lower-level staff and interns in optometry procedures
Requirements for Appointment
- Diploma in Optometry or Vision Science from a recognized institution
- Registration and valid practicing license from the Optometrists and Opticians Board of Kenya
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Meets the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya
