Human Resource Manager

Job Purpose:

  • Reporting to the Director, Human Resource & Administration, the Human Resource Manager will oversee delivery of effective HR services across the Hospital, including talent acquisition, talent development, organizational development, employee relations, and HR operations. The role ensures the Hospital attracts, develops, and retains the right talent to achieve its objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and implement the annual HR business plan to support the Hospital’s strategic goals, adjusting as required.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of strategies in talent acquisition, development, management, and culture that strengthen the Hospital’s people capabilities.
  • Stay updated on local and global HR best practices, advising management and staff on their implications for the Hospital.
  • Develop and implement robust HR policies and procedures in line with the Hospital’s values, Kenyan laborlaws, and best practices.
  • Continuously review and improve HR policies, procedures, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Guide, coach, and equip line managers with HR knowledge and skills to handle people-related matters effectively.
  • Conduct risk assessments on HR and people-related issues, advising the Director HR & Admin on mitigation strategies.
  • Provide expertise on organizational structures, job design, and business processes to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective recruitment, training, and development of employees to meet current and future business needs.
  • Lead the performance management process to align individual targets with Hospital strategy, and present evaluation outcomes with recommended interventions to senior management.
  • Champion organizational culture transformation initiatives that embed the Hospital’s values and drive positive behaviors.
  • Develop and implement reward and remuneration strategies to promote talent acquisition, retention, motivation, and productivity.
  • Prepare and process monthly pay change advisories in liaison with the Director HR to ensure timely updates to payroll.
  • Develop and oversee disciplinary, dispute resolution, and grievance management policies and processes.
  • Partner with hiring managers in workforce planning, including budgeting and personnel costing for staffing needs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • CHRP (K) and valid membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
  • At least 7 years of progressive HR experience, with 3+ years in a managerial role within a busy organization, preferably healthcare.
  • In-depth knowledge of Kenyan labor laws, HR best practices, and organizational development.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and partner with management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in performance management, talent development, and culture transformation.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Job Purpose

  • The Biomedical Lead is responsible for overseeing the biomedical engineering function within the Cardiothoracic Centre. This includes managing the maintenance, calibration, and lifecycle of medical equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and supporting clinical teams with technical expertise. The role also involves strategic planning, team leadership, and vendor coordination to ensure optimal equipment performance and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and supervise the biomedical engineering team, ensuring high performance and accountability.
  • Develop and implement biomedical equipment management strategies, including preventive maintenance schedules and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies related to biomedical equipment.

Operations & Technical Oversight

  • Oversee installation, calibration, repair, and maintenance of all medical equipment and medical gas systems.
  • Monitor uptime and performance of critical equipment, ensuring prompt resolution of faults.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, service history, and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate with clinical departments to assess equipment needs and provide technical support.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the hospital and medical equipment vendors.
  • Manage service contracts, warranties, and procurement processes for biomedical equipment.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of spare parts and maintenance tools.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Train biomedical staff and clinical users on safe and effective use of medical equipment.
  • Promote continuous learning and professional development within the biomedical team.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all biomedical activities align with national and international standards (e.g., ISO, EBK, AMEK).
  • Conduct audits and risk assessments related to equipment safety and performance.

Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facilities Lead or hospital management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Memberships
  • Membership in AMEK (Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya).
  • Registration with EBK and/or IEK as a professional engineer is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in biomedical engineering, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience in a cardiac or specialized healthcare facility is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of diverse medical equipment.
