Motor Vehicle Mechanic at Associated Vehicle Assemblers Limited
Motor Vehicle Mechanic
- The motor vehicle mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, servicing and maintaining motor vehicles to ensure they operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Vehicle Inspection – perform comprehensive inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and other issues
- Diagnosis – identify problems with engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and other vehicle components
- Repair and Maintenance – perform repairs and maintenance tasks including engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotations, brake replacements, and fluid flushes
- Part Replacement: replace worn or damaged parts such as belts, hoses, spark plugs, brake pads, and filters
- Electrical Systems: troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, starters, alternators, and lighting
- Computerised Systems: diagnose and repair complex computerised systems including engine control modules (ECMs), antilock brake systems (ABS), and airbag systems
- Production Support: communicate with production teams to explain repairs, provide estimates, and address concerns
- Documentation: maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities
- Safety Compliance: ensure that all repairs and maintenance tasks meet safety standards and regulations
- Assist in the development and implementation of planned preventative maintenance schedules
- Identify, develop, recommend, and execute key maintenance efficiency drivers to ensure continuous achievement of set goals and objectives
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance schedules as necessary and planned work orders as required, keep updated records of preventive maintenance activities and provide feedback to develop the system
- Provide technical support throughout the value chain whenever called upon
- Attending breakdowns, identifying faults and solving problems with minimal downtime to production
- Identify spare requirements and log usage
- Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timescales
- Work within 5S methodology to maintain high workplace standard
- Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage
- Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to supervisor
- Ensure all work is undertaken to a high-quality standard and adheres to all quality standard regulations
- Make full use of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and the W.O system
- Plan and prioritise workload to support production and ensure efficient use of working time
- Log completion of work on all required maintenance management systems
- Ensure that contractors work in accordance with company procedures
- Work in a safe manner complying with all health, safety, and environmental requirements to ensure own and safety of others
- Handle any hazardous materials in an appropriate manner
- Support continuous improvement activities
- Understanding engineering, scientific and other technical information
- Provide training and guidance to junior technicians or new hires as needed
- And any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required qualifications and experience:
- Diploma or degree in automotive engineering from a recognised automotive training institution
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and computerised systems in motor vehicles
- Practical hands-on approach to problem solving
- Valid driving license
- Structured Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Commercial understanding of the impact of failure/downtime on production and customer delivery
- Good understanding of customer expectations and deliverables with an awareness of the impact of failure/cost of inadequate quality
- Thoroughness and precision in performing inspections, repairs, and maintenance tasks
- Ability to train self and cascade knowledge to others
- Excellent teamwork skills
- An understanding of health and safety requirements
- Flexible approach to duties and tasks
- Shows moral courage, openness and honesty and has a collaborative approach when dealing with others
