Kitchen Steward
Job Purpose
To ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and proper organization of the kitchen, dishwashing area, equipment, and storage areas, supporting smooth restaurant operations and maintaining high hygiene standards in line with food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Sanitation & Cleaning
- Wash and sanitize dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils
- Clean kitchen equipment, work surfaces, storage areas, walk-in fridges, and floors
- Maintain cleanliness of back-of-house areas in accordance with HACCP and food safety standards
- Dispose of garbage, sort recyclables, and ensure waste is removed regularly and safely
- Ensure dishwashing machines & cleaning tools are properly used, cleaned, and maintained
Support to Kitchen & Service Teams
- Assist chefs and kitchen team by providing clean equipment and tools promptly
- Organize and store clean equipment in assigned locations
- Help with basic food prep tasks when required (e.g., peeling, portioning)
- Ensure service stations are stocked (plates, napkins, cutlery, glassware)
Operational Responsibilities
- Report equipment damage, malfunction, or safety issues immediately
- Follow daily and weekly cleaning checklists
- Maintain proper chemical handling and safety procedures
- Follow personal grooming standards and wear provided PPE / uniform at all times
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience as a steward, dishwasher, or cleaner in a hotel or restaurant (fine dining experience is an added advantage)
- Knowledge of basic food safety & hygiene standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
