Job Specification
The duties and responsibilities entail:

  • Assisting the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation) in the general administration in the Academic, Research and Innovation Division.
  • Coordinating programmes/syllabi, rules and regulations governing the implementation of academic and research programmes and students conduct in the University.
  • Coordinating continuous assessment of University and national examinations.
  • Coordinating the preparation of teaching and examination timetables.
  • Providing secretarial services to all Senate committees related to academics and student matters.
  • Guiding Deans of Schools, Directors of Institutes and Chairmen of Departments in running of academic, research and outreach programmes at the respective levels.
  • Coordinating and collect evidence for performance targets and preparation of the division’s performance contract quarterly reports.
  • Overseeing the administration of student welfare services and integrity of the student data base.
  • Working closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation) on teaching and technical staff development, training needs and research collaboration programmes.
  • Coordinating teaching staff evaluation by students.
  • Working closely with academic departments to ensure success in Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body interventions.
  • Developing and administer the division’s budget.
  • Planning student’s selection, admission and registration processes.
  • Coordinating the administration and processing of examinations, academic transcripts and certificates.
  • Communicating, follow-up and implement decisions of Management and Management Committees.
  • Planning the semester schedule of classes each semester.
  • Supervising the coordination, evaluation and certification of all graduation applications.
  • Coordinating the allocation of resources for academic, research and outreach purposes.
  • Performing any other duties that may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation ).

REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT

For appointment to this post, a candidate must:

  • Have an earned PhD or its equivalent from a recognized and accredited University.
  • Have a Master’s Degree in relevant area from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Have Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Have at least fifteen (15) years’ cumulative relevant work experience, four (4) of which must be at senior management level.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and management of staff at University level.
  • Have management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks cumulatively.
  • Have proven capacity to promote learning teaching and research and development in a University.
  • Be computer proficient and conversant with use of ERP system.
  • Be a member of a recognized professional body (where applicable)
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.

Job Specifications

The central role of the Lecturers is teaching & Supervision, research & innovation, and community outreach.

The key duties and responsibilities entail:

  • Lecturing in area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
  • Coordinating course projects and practical work;
  • Preparing teaching/learning materials;
  • Setting, invigilating and marking examinations/assignments;
  • Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
  • Preparing students progress reports;
  • Developing proposals for research funding;
  • Writing journal articles and books;
  • Presenting academic papers in conferences/seminars/workshops or symposia;
  • Developing and reviewing academic programmes/curricula; and
  • Supervising Tutorial/Junior Research Fellows and students.
  • Undertake consultancies with local and international organizations within areas of expertise to enhance the image of the University;
  • Establish collaborative linkages and networks through communication, collaboration and participation for resource mobilization for the University;
  • Present research findings and innovations to international conferences in order to increase the visibility of the University and to influence international policy environment for improvement of life;
  • Engage with local and international stakeholders to establish linkages and networks in order to work together for the betterment of communities in various ways such as research and innovations;
  • Execute budgets for student field trips for academic exposure and the application of theory;
  • Control and manage research budgets to ensure accountability of allocated funds.

Requirements for appointment.
For appointment to this position the candidate must have:

  • An earned PhD in Nursing Sciences with specialty in Medical Surgical Nursing or equivalent Degree qualification in the relevant area from an accredited University.
  • Be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya and with a valid practicing License.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.

OR

  • Have a Master’s degree in Nursing Sciences with specialty in Medical Surgical Nursing or equivalent Degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited University with at least three (3) years research/teaching/industry experience.
  • Have a minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
  • Be registered with Nursing Council of Kenya and with a valid practicing License.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity upon successful appointment.
