We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead our nursing department. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic oversight of nursing operations, clinical quality, patient safety, and staff development, ensuring that nursing services align with the hospital’s mission and uphold the highest standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for nursing services across the hospital.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation for all nursing units.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional nursing standards.
  • Promote patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based nursing care.
  • Mentor, train, and evaluate nursing staff to foster professional growth and retention.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and medical teams on clinical governance and operational planning.
  • Monitor nursing budgets, optimize resource use, and contribute to cost-effective healthcare delivery.
  • Lead initiatives for patient-centered care and continuous service improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or related field is an added advantage.
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years progressive nursing leadership experience in a hospital setting.
  • Experience in Maternity, ICU & critical care or theatre will be an additional advantage
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, quality assurance, and clinical governance.

Method of Application

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Department – ICU/HDU to lead and manage our critical care services. The successful candidate will provide strategic and clinical leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of ICU/HDU services.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, protocols, and quality standards.
  • Oversee patient care and ensure adherence to evidence-based critical care practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate ICU/HDU staff, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling, workload management, and training needs.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources, equipment, and consumables in critical care units.
  • Monitor patient safety indicators, infection control, and clinical outcomes, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to support seamless care delivery.
  • Lead morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and departmental meetings.
  • Support continuous professional development and promote a culture of excellence and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Postgraduate training in Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, or specialization in ICU care.
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council Of Kenya (KMPDC).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ clinical experience in ICU/HDU, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Mandatory valid ACLS & BLS
