Intern – Training and Development Section

  • The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days (35 hours) per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.  
  • This internship is designed to be conducted in person and full time but can be adapted to accommodate remote/hybrid arrangements and/or part-time arrangements (20 hours per week) on an exceptional basis.   The Training and Development Section develops training and related materials on UN safety and security-related topics and conducts security training missions for United Nations security personnel, Designated Officials, Security Management Team members and UN personnel in the field.  
  • Our work covers the following portfolios: security awareness and learning for UNSMS personnel; core training for Security Advisers and decision-makers; specialized training for UN security personnel; first responder and use of force programmes; instructional design, online learning, and special projects.  Within assigned authority, the intern is expected to undertake the following duties: 
  • Collaborate with trainers to develop training materials and resources.
  • Assist in the translation of materials into French and/or other languages as appropriate. Assist in the review of training materials.  
  • Assist in drafting and editing communication materials such as emails, posters, and presentations.
  • Research and gather information to support the creation of awareness campaigns.Help organize and promote training awareness events and activities.Assist in coordinating logistics for staff awareness trainings and workshops.Assist with evaluation and analysis of training activities.
  • Assist in preparing reports and presentations on awareness trainings and initiatives.Communicate with participants to provide information and gather input for training efforts.Help maintain inventory of training materials and supplies.Maintain and update content on staff awareness platforms (e.g. trainers network, intranet, newsletters).

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • have graduated with a university degree (as defined above).

For purposes of this instruction, “child” means (i) the child of a staff member.   • The UN shall be entitled to all property rights, including but not limited to patents, copyrights, and trademarks, regarding material which bears a direct relation to or is made in consequence of, the services provided under the internship. At the request of the UN, the interns shall assist in securing such property rights and transferring them to the UN in compliance with the requirements of the applicable law.
  • Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and of the receiving department/office and shall not seek or accept instructions regarding the services performed under the internship agreement from any Government or from any authority external to the UN.Unless otherwise authorized by the appropriate official in the receiving department/office, they may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person,
  • Government or any other external source any information which has become known to them by reason of their association with the UN or the receiving department/office, that they know or ought to have known has not been made public.
  • They may not use any such information without the written authorization of the appropriate official, and such information may never be used for personal gain.

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria?

  • Ability to proofread and edit content to ensure clarity and consistency. Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office 365, with proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint presentation. Proven ability to leverage AI-powered tools for productivity enhancement. Basic understanding of learning management systems (LMS).

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in French would be considered an asset.
