Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

Nairobi Factory (60%)

  • Eliminate Loss according to the UMS prioritization process using PM, FI and QC pillar tools and methodologies.  
  • Implement SMART/Automated Nairobi site equipment condition monitoring/predictive maintenance and design /automation improvements to maintain basic conditions and increase MTBF 
  • Digitization/Automation and delivery of daily, weekly, monthly planned maintenance work planning, engineering stores management and Utilities management with respective analytics
  • Early Equipment management of I&C architecture design, design approvals for all CAPEX projects to ensure compliance to UL Core design
  • Strategic plan development for CMMS/SAP PM module next phases 
  • Train maintenance teams on technical standards and sustainability of basic conditions (Stability sustainability).  
  • Design, implement and maintain the Factory OT Network with an appropriate real-time backup system while ensuring compliance to Cybersecurity policies
  • Coordination of OEM support for audits, training, or chronic/acute loss resolution 
  • Identify, propose and extend new automation technologies/ good practices that impact cost reduction, Environmental rules and regulations and process safety
  • Ensures compliance with Inter/national Electrical Codes and other applicable laws, codes, or regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to manufacturers, contractors, and other internal or external parties with respect to utilities equipment, instruments, and related systems.
  • Design/ approve designed installation specifications, diagrams, and plans mount, wire, program, and test instrumentation and control equipment

1AML Digital (40%)

  • Where possible, develop digital solutions to challenges in such a way that can be used across multiple sites in 1AML – e.g. UMS Pillar views, Analytics Solutions, League Table
  • Enhance, Maintain, troubleshoot the Manufacturing League – especially regarding data-pipelines, and support onboarding of new sites
  • Become highly proficient at navigating Unilever’s data architecture, both IOT (from sensors to cloud to visuals) and side (from mater systems like She-net, to data-pipelines and visuals)
  • Work with Site Teams to ensure objectives of analytics projects are well defined, value-creation quantified, visuals well designed, and back-end well architected – then execute delivery to a high standard using most suitable tools – e.g. PowerBI, or Ignition, or Cerebra
  • Play a leading role using analytics to derive insights and make business recommendations
  • Develop the ability to refine digital roadmaps for sites, working collaboratively to identify high value opportunities, develop the solutions, and quantify effort and impact
  • Be a champion for digital solutions, including DFOS, Buildapp, Self-Built Solutions and SPC; working with Operations, Digital, HR, and Training to ensure sites derive

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Experiences & Qualifications

  • Minimum BSc or equivalent in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Software / PLC programming knowledge
  • Able to visualize clearly what the ideal production system is. 
  • Able to clearly understand operating principles and establish correct operating standards. 
  • Able to present findings and rationales clearly so that whole factory team can understand. 
  • Able to make logical decisions based on data
  • Good mechatronic aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate and report condition of equipment and status of jobs, supervise operations and other craft personnel and outside service representatives.
  • Knowledge of Statutory and Electro-mechanical (IEC) Standards.
  • Knowledge of maintenance activities and procedures performed on control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret instruction manuals blueprints and control system drawings; applies knowledge to daily tasks.
  • Ability to learn Process Engineering
  • Ability to use mathematics including algebra and geometry to take measurements and perform computations required for installation and calibration of equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electronic and digital controllers used in control loops.
  • Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on temperature, level, and pressure instruments and transmitters.
  • Ability to Tag Out/Lock Out equipment per Tag Out/Lock Out procedure.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and associated software.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of plant operations, equipment and skill area knowledge to daily decision making.
  • Ability to complete all written and electronic records to document work in progress and completed
