ICT Assistant

Position Summary:

The ICT Assistant will provide first-line technical support, maintain ICT systems, and assist in the planning and implementation of ICT infrastructure and services. The role ensures smooth operation of hardware, software, networks, and related services to support academic and administrative functions at the university.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide first-line ICT support through the helpdesk: answer, log, resolve, escalate, and close support requests.
  • Ensure smooth running of computer lab classes, desktop machine in classes and assist with day-to-day ICT needs across departments.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Troubleshoot network cabling infrastructure and connectivity issues.
  • Ensure antivirus protection is up to date across all ICT assets.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the university’s ICT strategy and policies.
  • Manage ID card printing for students and staff, maintaining accurate records.
  • Anticipate and request printing materials, repairs, and ICT maintenance items in a timely manner.
  • Track and update users on the status of open tickets, ensuring timely communication and resolution.
  • Maintain an updated inventory lifecycle of hardware, software, and accessories in the ICT Asset Management system

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in ICT support, systems administration, or a related role (experience in an academic institution is an added advantage).
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Microsoft, ITIL, or other relevant professional certifications are an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and database management.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, cabling, and connectivity troubleshooting. 
  • Hands-on experience with antivirus, backup, and data protection tools.
  • Practical knowledge of preventive and corrective ICT maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to support non-technical users.
  • Strong ethical standards, confidentiality, and integrity.
