Head Teacher

As Head Teacher, you will be instrumental in shaping the foundational years at Woods. This is a pivotal leadership role where you will lead and oversee the school’s overall performance and outcomes. You will drive our vision, lead strategic plans, and ensure rigorous monitoring, evaluation, and reporting to the Board. 
This role demands a leader who can balance educational excellence with operational efficiency and significant growth targets. 
Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategic & Visionary Leadership: Help implement the school’s vision, ethos, and strategic plans, ensuring academic excellence and a culture of wellbeing. Oversee accountability and drive student enrollment growth.
  • Operational Management: Lead all day-to-day school operations, including staff recruitment, performance management, budget oversight, and resource allocation. Prepare the school for inspections and oversee daily events.
  • Staff Development: Recruit, motivate, and develop a high-performing team, fostering professional growth and ensuring staff wellbeing.
  • Curriculum Development: Oversee and enhance the curriculum, ensuring it meets diverse pupil needs, aligns with British educational standards, and reflects Woods’ unique philosophy.
  • Pupil Welfare & Safety: Champion the safety and wellbeing of all pupils, maintaining strict safeguarding protocols and creating an inclusive, supportive environment.
  • Community Engagement: Build strong, positive relationships with parents, the local community, and key stakeholders.
  • School Marketing: Actively contribute to promoting the school, supporting marketing initiatives and events.

Essential Requirements:

  • Educational Leadership Experience: Proven track record of strong educational leadership within a primary school setting, demonstrating the ability to guide a school towards achieving academic excellence and promoting a culture of learning, achievement, and wellbeing.
  • Strategic Vision & Implementation: Demonstrated ability to articulate, share, and ensure understanding of a school’s vision and ethos. Experience in developing and effectively implementing strategic plans that drive school improvement and success.
  • Operational Management Acumen: Extensive experience in the day-to-day management of a school, including staff recruitment and retention, staff performance management, and efficient resource allocation to ensure effective school operations.
  • Financial Oversight: Proven ability in budget management, ideally in collaboration with a finance department.
  • Role Model & Professionalism: A commitment to upholding high standards of conduct, acting as a positive role model for children and adults, and consistently modeling ethical behaviour, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Strong Communication & Reporting Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and external stakeholders, alongside the ability to provide clear reports on performance, financials, and improvements to a Board and governance structure.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated capability in providing support and mentorship, particularly to senior leadership roles such as a Deputy Head and Head of Curriculum.
  • Student Growth Focus: A clear understanding of strategies for student enrolment growth and retention, with the ability to lead initiatives towards achieving ambitious enrollment targets.
  • Commitment to teaching: Willingness to occasionally take classes to cover for teacher sickness or absence, and actively participate in hosting and presiding over assemblies and school events.
  • Eligibility to Work in Kenya: Candidates must have the legal right to work in Kenya at the time of application.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in a school undergoing significant growth or strategic development.
  • Familiarity with the British education curriculum and Kenyan regulatory landscape.
  • A passion for fostering a unique and engaging learning environment, aligning with Woods’ ethos.
