Position Summary

The Education and Livelihoods Assistant will support the coordination and implementation of the Integrated Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) Skills Training program. Specifically vocational, financial literacy, ECDE-based training interventions for refugee and host community youth and coordination and collaboration with County Governments in the respective project location. This includes direct support to training delivery, youth mentorship and placement, support to Youth Savings and Loan Associations (YSLAs), and facilitation of certification pathways including Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Key Responsibilities

Youth Outreach and Enrollment

  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and interviews to identify youthful teachers for participation in skills training, apprenticeship, and savings programs.
  • Support mobilization efforts and conduct pre-enrollment information sessions for youth.
  • Conduct recruitment drives for unemployed youth with ECDE training for placement in select schools on internships.

Training and Skills Development Support

  • Facilitate implementation of ECDE and childcare-related vocational training (e.g., CBC/CBA-aligned pedagogy, Nurturing Care Framework, positive parenting).
  • Support NITA and other training partners in delivering structured courses and tracking participant progress.
  • Assist in logistics for training sessions, including scheduling, material distribution, and coordination with trainers.

Youth Mentorship, Certification, and Placement

  • Support youth to access RPL certification, business mentorship, and internships in schools, NGOs, and the private sector.
  • Track youth transition to employment or entrepreneurship and document key outcomes.
  • Support in provision and distribution of startup kits and follow-up mentoring.

Youth Savings and Financial Inclusion

  • Facilitate the training and monitoring of Youth Savings and Loan Associations (YSLAs).
  • Support delivery of financial literacy training in coordination with technical officers.
  • Monitor savings group performance and link youth to financial services where appropriate.

Monitoring, Feedback, and Learning

  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and high-quality progress and end of projects narrative reports which are in accordance with the donor reporting schedule and formats.
  • Participate in monthly BVA meetings to ensure prudent use of financial resources
  • Conduct routine visits to ECDE centers/schools to monitor the performance of the interns
  • Participant in the development and/or review of school assessment tools and other data collection tools
  • Work closely with the MEAL Officer to collect and report feedback from youth and community members on service delivery.
  • Strengthen and support the use of Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (CFRM) and referral pathways for quality improvement.
  • Document success stories, lessons learned, and implementation challenges for adaptive learning.

Coordination and Partnerships

  • Work with county governments, particularly ECDE departments, NITA, and local training institutions to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining collaborative relationships with local authorities and private sector actors involved in youth skills development.
  • Attend and participate in field level monthly education coordination/working group meeting representing IRC
  • Maintain open communication with LWF, FCA and County ECDE departments to enhance information sharing and data flow.

Reporting and Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries, training sessions, and follow-ups.
  • Participate in team planning and reviews to ensure timely execution of work plans.
  • Prepare field activity reports as requested.
  • Keep an up-to-date register of youth on internship in ECDE schools
  • Prepare and submit timesheets for payment of monthly stipends for youth on internship in ECDE schools
  • Participate in quarterly follow-ups and progress review meetings to address key performance issues from the reports.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure adherence to IRC safety and security protocols at all times.
  • Uphold ethical practices and confidentiality in all beneficiary interactions and data handling.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Education, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Community Development, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in youth livelihoods, skills training, or education-related programming.
  • Prior experience working with refugees, host communities, or vulnerable youth populations is highly desirable.
  • Experience in ECDE training delivery, vocational education, or CBC/CBA programming is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement training programs and youth mentorship.
  • Proven experience with financial inclusion or community savings groups.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in multicultural teams, and in challenging settings.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, databases, online collaboration tools).
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili required; knowledge of local languages an added advantage.
