Community Oral Health Officer

About the Client:

Our client is a reputable organization in the healthcare sector, committed to providing quality and patient-centered medical services. They are seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Oral Health Officer to join their team and support the delivery of comprehensive oral healthcare services across various healthcare units.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform authorized dental procedures including cleaning teeth, removing plaque and tartar, filling cavities, rebuilding broken teeth, replacing missing teeth, and extracting severely damaged teeth.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and tray setups prior to each procedure, ensuring all materials and equipment are properly sterilized and ready for use.
  • Conduct comprehensive oral examinations, including reviewing patient medical histories, analysing dental X-rays, and maintaining accurate dental charting.
  • Implement and adhere to infection prevention and control protocols. 
  • Provide oral health education to patients and community members through both in-person sessions and online platforms.
  • Counsel and reassure patients to manage dental anxiety, ensuring a positive dental experience.
  • Treat and follow up with patients to manage and prevent the progression of dental diseases.
  • Provide prescriptions and post-treatment instructions to patients to promote ongoing oral health.
  • Assist the Dental Surgeon in procedures and conduct procedures under supervision when required.
  • Participate in community dental outreach and wellness programs organized in various settings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and reports using both manual and digital systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care and referral of complex cases.
  • Monitor and report dental equipment performance, ensuring prompt servicing and maintenance.
  • Stay updated with current dental practices, innovations, and technologies to enhance service quality and patient care.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Community Oral Health or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Registered and licensed with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) or relevant regulatory body.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a busy dental clinic or community health facility.
  • Strong understanding of infection prevention, dental procedures, and patient care.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counselling skills.
  • Computer literacy and experience with electronic medical record systems.
  • Compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to promoting oral health within the community.
