Legal Officer

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide legal advice and support across a wide range of issues in Kenya and Uganda, including commercial, regulatory, and operational matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct legal research to ensure full compliance with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA), and other applicable bodies.
  • Support litigation management and liaise with external counsel.
  • Develop and implement legal and compliance frameworks, policies, and training.
  • Track changes in legislation and inform internal teams of relevant impacts.
  • Collaborate with product, risk, and operations teams to integrate legal compliance into the business.
  • Manage corporate governance and company secretarial obligations.
  • Oversee and maintain legal documentation and records.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution and admission to the Kenyan Bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, preferably in fintech or financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, financial regulations, and corporate law in Kenya (with capacity to learn Ugandan law).
  • Excellent legal drafting, communication, and analytical skills.
  • High professional integrity, independent thinking, and collaborative spirit.

Bonus Points For:

  • Post-graduate diploma or Master’s in Law or related field.
  • Experience in mobile money, digital lending, or data privacy laws.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and corporate governance frameworks.
  • Certifications in compliance or legal risk management.
