Role Overview.
The Assistant Quality Assurance – (Compliance & Quality Assurance) will be responsible for the execution, monitoring, and verification of all food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance systems within the fresh vegetable packhouse. This role will have a concentrated focus on ensuring the facility’s daily operations adhere to internal specifications and external certification standards (e.g., Global G.A.P., BRC, HACCP, FSSC, Social and Environmental Systems.
Key Responsibilities.
- Perform defined analytical and sensory quality checks at critical control point, inbound raw material inspection, processing/packing line checks, and finished pallet audits.
- Calibrate and maintain all quality control equipment according to schedule and maintain calibration records.
- Collect and prepare representative samples for third-party laboratory testing (pesticide residues, microbiological analysis) as per the sampling plan and customer requirements.
- Monitor and record critical control parameters, including cold chain management and water quality,
- Maintain the master list of controlled documents (SOPs, Forms, Work Instructions). Issue, archive, and control revisions of all quality records.
- Ensure all production and quality records (harvest information, field tickets, packing logs, sanitation records, pest control reports, shipment details) are completed accurately, filed systematically, and are readily retrievable for traceability exercises.
- Promote a culture of food safety and quality on the packing floor through daily engagement and reinforcement of standards.
- Conduct internal Compliance audits and GMP inspections against the relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and certification bodies’ checklists (BRC, GlobalG.A.P, FSSC)
- Lead the preparation for all external audits, including compiling evidence, organizing documentation, and facilitating auditor walk-throughs. Act as a primary point of contact during audits.
- Maintain the facility’s certification and audit calendar, ensuring all surveillance and renewal audits are scheduled and prepared for.
- Verify and document the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) arising from internal and external audits.
- Assist in developing and delivering targeted training modules on GMPs, hygiene, allergen control, and quality specifications to production staff.
- Maintain the facility’s training records, ensuring all personnel certifications (food handler, HACCP) are current.
- Initiate and document Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for any breach of quality or food safety standards.
- Lead initial investigations into minor quality complaints or deviations, gathering data and reporting findings to the QA Supervisor.
- Support supplier quality management by documenting and reporting non-conformances related to incoming raw materials (field bins, packaging).
