Housing Disaster Resilience and Recovery (HDRR) Intern

The Housing Disaster Resilience and Recovery Intern (HDRR Intern) provides technical support to Disaster Recovery and Disaster Resilience initiatives at the Area Office and National Office levels. The position focuses on backstop support and systematization of specific tasks related to the update of HDRR standard operating procedures and protocols, technical documents review and update and logistics support to the HDRR function as required. In supporting Habitat’s mission, the HDRR intern will directly report to Director of Field Operations – HDRR and will engage in key activities of programmatic and operational guidance development to increase and contribute to capacity building processes for Habitat national organizations around the world. The HDRR intern will also maintain updated programmatic and technical information relevant to HDRR work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the process of updating HDRR standard operating procedures – SOPs
  • Researches and prepares new HDRR technical documentation and guidance
  • Structure and works with the information management function to upload resources at the HFH International Knowledge Center – IKC.
  • Supports logistics for HDRR meetings and training events.
  • Contributes to the identification of HDRR related best practices within HFH network.
  • Supports HDRR field operations staff during deployments/recovery projects as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of civil engineering, OR architecture, OR construction technology OR other relevant sectors
  • One year of practical experience in housing construction or community based disaster related work
  • Computer literate and software use
  • Highly organized and focused on detail
  • Excellent writing skills (English language)
  • Ability to comfortably engage with diverse, multi-cultural audiences

Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):

  • Enrolled in Master’s degree or additional studies in areas relevant to disaster/climate resilience, housing.
