Job Description

The Project Manager will provide both strategic and technical leadership in the implementation of SUPREME. This role requires strong project management skills and experience in integrating priority interventions and products, overseeing the development and execution of project activities to improve the availability and affordability of medicines, diagnostic technologies, and medical devices across the project countries. The Project Manager will offer strategic vision, technical assistance, and analytical support to Amref’s technical programs and country offices to address market-level access, product utilization, and introduction barriers, including pricing, quality, and supplier diversity. Familiarity with Unitaid Grant Agreement Development (GAD) processes and the capacity to manage multiple partners across several countries in Africa will be key to this role.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide management, strategic direction and leadership of the project in line with Unitaid guidelines.
  • Provide strategic oversight to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
  • Manage the project technical team and ensure alignment with the work plan.
  • Oversee the technical quality of all the deliverables by sub-awardees.
  • Support work planning and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Collaborate with implementing partners, governments, community organizations, commercial partners, and internal teams to plan and implement access plans
  • Support the execution of market access strategies in LMICs addressing barriers to access around policy, regulatory approval, implementation models, and financing across a portfolio of essential.

Project Management

  • Foster and nurture strategic partnerships including with Unitaid, Ministries of Health, local organizations and the private sector.
  • Manage relationships with consortium partners and ensure quality deliverables are met per the project award agreement.
  • Serve as the principal contact person for Unitaid, and nurture and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Synthesize findings from implementation research, developed investment cases and cost-impact models, and engage with key stakeholders to garner buy-in at country and regional levels.
  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and adaptive learning of project activities to ensure high-quality, results-driven implementation.
  • Represent Amref Health Africa in relevant meetings and technical working groups.
  • Lead the development of quarterly reports and donor presentations, ensuring timely and high-quality documentation and knowledge sharing.

Delivery Performance

  • Work with the other Advisors including the MEL Advisors to perform technical program reviews, ensure high quality results through identifying steps for improvement and assuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Synthesize findings from implementation research, develop investment cases and cost-impact models, and engage with key stakeholders to generate buy-in.
  • Participate in implementing quality assurance processes and tools of the project.
  • Work closely with the Technical Director – RMNCAH to monitor programme performance and delivery ensuring all deliverables and targets are reached.
  • Provide line management to country office, responsible for offering technical oversight of the programme.
  •  Attend consortium level and internal level meetings to review performance against agreed deliverables and offer technical and strategic inputs.
  • Oversee and ensure execution of key milestones, taking responsibility for overall progress and use of resources and initiating corrective action where necessary.
  • Identify and manage risks so that maximum benefit to the donor and stakeholders is achieved.
  • Review and synthesize data for programmatic performance monitoring of RMNCAH activities and utilize the data to sustain and/or take corrective actions.
  • Lead planning and execution of communications strategies through a wide range of channels, including abstract submissions, conference satellite sessions, webinars, blog posts, and policy briefs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing/Midwifery, Public Health, or a related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in applying MNCH, specifically with demand- and supply-side barriers to the introduction and rapid uptake of innovations programming.
  • Experience in coordinating A complex, multi-country, multi-partner project.
  • Strong understanding, familiarity and experience implementing Unitaid-funded project.
