Consultancy: Baseline Study Expert – Inclusive SRHR for Young Persons with Disabilities in Kibera
Objective of the Consultancy
The purpose of the baseline study is to:
- Assess the knowledge and practices related to SRHR among YPWD (in and out of school).
- Evaluate the current capacity and practices of schools, health facilities, and community structures in delivering inclusive SRHR services.
- Identify community perceptions, systemic barriers, and enabling factors affecting SRHR access for YPWD.
- Provide recommendations for refining implementation strategies to achieve the project’s outcomes.
Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Develop a detailed baseline study methodology, including sampling and data collection tools.
- Conduct a literature review and stakeholder consultations.
- Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data from project stakeholders.
- Provide disaggregated data (by age, gender, disability type, etc.).
- Produce a baseline report with key findings, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.
Methodology
The consultant is expected to propose a mixed-methods approach, including but not limited to:
- Key Informant Interviews (KIIs)
- Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)
- Surveys/questionnaires with students, teachers, community health promoters, APDK ambassadors, caregivers, and duty bearers
- Observations and participatory mapping sessions in schools and safe spaces
Deliverables
- Inception report with detailed methodology and tools – Week 1
- Data collection and analysis plan – Week 2-4
- Draft baseline report – Week 4 & 5
- Validation workshop – Week 5
- Final baseline report with recommendations – Week 6
Timeframe
The consultancy is expected to run for 6 weeks, starting from the date of contract signing. A detailed work plan will be agreed upon with the selected consultant.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field.
- Proven experience in conducting baseline studies in SRHR and/or disability inclusion.
- Demonstrated expertise in participatory and inclusive research methodologies.
- Familiarity with the Kenyan SRHR and disability rights context.
- Excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication skills.
