The Manager, Government Relations, NA State and Local plays a key role in shaping and advancing Lenovo’s public policy efforts in different U.S. states. The role involves working with business groups, legal teams and community partners while keeping a close eye on new state policy actions. The person will help form strategies for outreach, maintain good ties with decision makers and share updates that help internal teams prepare for policy changes. Job responsibilities
Work with the director and the broader Government Relations team to move key policy topics forward in important states and communities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with state and local leaders and outside partners.
Spot and review important state policy issues and legislation and develop strategies to respond to them.
Keep business groups informed about state actions that may affect products and services.
Work with legal teams to guide business units on policy matters that could affect product plans.
Take part in policy discussions within trade groups and industry associations and share insights with internal teams.
Represent the company in state and local policy settings, including events with officials, industry groups and community partners.
Support site leaders in shaping local engagement plans that help the company stay active in nearby communities.
Identify outside consultants or lobbying help when needed for state-level issues.
Work with tax and business teams to secure and highlight incentives offered by state and local governments.
Help shape dialogue opportunities with outside partners to support the company’s goals and reputation.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Understanding of the North America technology market including laptops, IT hardware, mobile devices and cloud systems.
Awareness of the North American political environment and government structures, especially at the state level.
Strong network with policy leaders and familiarity with the technology sector.
Experience with policy work across multiple U.S. states.
Interest in new technologies and how policy affects them.
Good judgment, persuasive communication and comfort working in changing environments.
Strong teamwork skills, strategic thinking and emotional intelligence.
Experience in government, diplomacy or similar settings.
Prior work experience
At least eight years of experience building and managing strategic relationships to guide public or technology policy at the state level.
At least five years of experience focused on technology policy.
Experience working with engineering teams and government officials.
Skill in writing or presenting content on policy topics.
Ability to work with different viewpoints and support group efforts.
Comfort understanding and explaining policy matters involving fast-changing technology.
Understanding of geopolitics at the state level is helpful.
Educational requirements
A bachelor’s degree in public relations, communication, political science, public affairs, law, business, economics, marketing, journalism, business/commerce, history, geography or a related field.
Travel requirements
About twenty percent travel within the U.S.
Compensation
This role offers a base range of one hundred fifty thousand to one hundred seventy-five thousand dollars. Bonus and other benefits may also apply.
