About the Role
The Accommodation Specialist is the first point of contact for employees who need support because of a disability. You help them understand the process and guide them through each step. You handle requests that range from simple to moderately complex. Your goal is to make the experience easy, clear, and respectful.
You review each request, gather needed details, and help employees understand how the accommodation process works. You make sure information is handled in a timely and accurate way. You track cases and update records as employees move through the process.
Main Duties Explained
You respond to new accommodation requests and provide the correct forms. You explain timelines, responsibilities, and next steps. You review early information to see whether the request may qualify. When you need support, you work with disability management staff.
You also take part in team reviews when employees may need extended leave or separation as an accommodation. You follow established guidelines and provide a clear view of return-to-work potential. You keep case files updated inside the company’s case management system.
You partner with medical, legal, and return-to-work staff when needed. You escalate complex issues and rely on company systems to keep work organized. You support the team by helping track trends and maintaining accurate reports.
Qualifications Explained
You need a bachelor’s degree in business, science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience in human resources, leave management, or benefits can also qualify you.
You need two to four years of experience supporting disability accommodation, return-to-work programs, claims, or absence management. You should understand federal and state laws, including ADA and FMLA. Experience using a case management system to support ADA accommodation plans is helpful.
You must show strong customer service skills, clear communication, and the ability to solve problems. Awareness of local and state laws tied to disability access strengthens your application. Certifications such as PHR, CPDM, or ADA certification are preferred but not required.
Benefits Explained
You may receive paid sick leave, optional medical and dental plans, a 401(k) plan, employer-paid life insurance, and employer-paid short-term disability. Optional life insurance is also available.
